Policies & Procedures
We are a Decile 6, Year 1-8 full primary school situated 20km south of Palmerston North on State Highway 57 with five classrooms. The school roll is made up of; 51% European, 44% Māori, and 5% other ethnicities. We have seen significant growth in the past few years, and as a result an Enrolment Scheme was implemented in 2018. While Tokomaru School is at the northern end of the Horowhenua District, the majority of our families’ travel to Palmerston North for work and/or services.
The school community is a mix of rural and village families. As a rural school, considerable reliance is placed on parent and community involvement. Tokomaru School does not ask for a school donation from our families. Instead we ask for support from parents in non-monetary, ways. We appreciate the ongoing support we get from members of our community, who help enhance the educational opportunities of our students. We have strong links with all local community groups and local businesses, who so willingly support our school.

Kia ora Parents/Caregivers and Students,
We are so excited to welcome everyone back on Monday 27th January for a fantastic 2025 school year!
Bring your togs and towel from Monday for swimming fun!
As we begin the new year, we are thrilled to announce some important updates and additions to our Tokomaru School community:
1. Ka Ora, Ka Ako/Healthy School Lunches Programme
Due to changes made to the Ka Ora, Ka Ako model, we are pleased to introduce our new school lunch programme provider as Shannon School, offering nutritious and delicious meals for all our students from Year 0 to Year 8. These will be starting from the first day of school on Monday. Lunches will now be served in a reuseable bowl or plate with reuseable cutlery. All students must be provided with a brain food snack and morning tea from home. Please see the Week 1 menu below.
2. New Teacher in Room 5/Ruma Rima
We are delighted to welcome Murray Te Huki as our new teacher in Room 5. With his passion for educating children, extensive coaching and sports involvement, most recently working at Sport Manawatu, and education experience locally and overseas, we are confident Matua Murray will make a positive impact in the classroom and school, supporting our students to achieve excellence. I will be teaching in Room 5 until Matua Murray starts in Week 2.
3. Deputy Principal
Please join us in congratulating Shayla Treleaven on being appointed as our Deputy Principal. With the leadership she has demonstrated in the classroom, sports organisation both internally and externally, her mentoring of student teachers, and relationships with our tamariki, whānau, and wider community, we are excited for the contributions and support Shayla brings to our kura in this position.
We look forward to a fun-filled year of growth, learning, and opportunities. Here's to a successful 2025 school year!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
